Chairperson
Uncle Barry Hoskins was born in 1952 in Coffs Harbour
and it was also in Coffs Harbour that he was raised.
He was born 1 of 10 children to William and Pearl Hoskins.
Uncle William Hoskins was born and raised in Taree and
Aunty Pearl Hoskins (ne Grayson) was born on Ringorah
Station near Warren, located in Western NSW. Uncle Barry’s
schooling included attending Coffs Harbour primary and
Coffs Harbour (Jetty) high schools.
He has 2 birth children and has fostered 6 non biological
children. He is kept busy being Pop to 11 grandchildren.
From and early age Uncle Barry has been involved in
rugby league from a small child up until the early 1990’s.
His sporting achievements included:
2 years in under 18’s playing for Coffs Harbour
1971 – 1973 first grade played for Coffs Harbour
1974 – 1989 first grade played for Woolgoolga
Football Club.
He also enjoys the odd game of tennis and golf and
the occasional surf.
His working life began in 1967 working in a supermarket..
He then went on to working in a concrete and block making
factory as a labourer. He also spent a short time working
with public works. In 1971 started working at Coffs
Harbour golf club where he stayed for 10years as a member
of the greens keeping staff.
In 1982 – 1989 he worked for TAFE New South Wales
Coffs Harbour Campus as a Storeman working in the brick
laying faculty
In July 1989 Uncle Barry took up the position of ACLO
(Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer) with the NSW
Police Service in Coffs Harbour, which is where he is
to this very day.
Uncle Barry has been a member of CHAFCCC since 1992
serving as the Chairperson since 2000. Uncle Barry was
a foundation member of the Coffs Harbour Local Aboriginal
Land Council andhas served as a member of Yarrawarra
Corporation for over 10yrs, many of those years as a
Board member. |
